Youth & Dating Relationships - When a Relationship Turns Bad
- Consider changing your locker and lock.
- Tell a trusted adult at school, tell your parents if you can, tell your friends.
- Consider changing your routine. For example, if you always drive/walk a certain way to school, take an alternate route; if you always eat in a specific spot in the school, choose a different location and bring your friends with you!
- If stranded, know who can you call. Be ready for anything.
- Keep a journal describing the abuse. Take pictures if the abuse is physical.
- Get rid of or change the number to any beepers, pagers or cell phones the abuser knows the number to.
- Keep spare change, calling cards, number of the local teen advocate or shelter, number of someone who can help you with restraining orders.
- Where is your safe place?
